Jane knows food. She once made a Jello mold of her face and had the stomach to eat every item offered at three amusement parks. She even tried Spam-apple pie while judging at the Ohio State Fair. She's taste-tested food with Paul Prudhomme's first cookbook, interviewed Martha Stewart, and rubbed elbows with Wolfgang Puck. This collection of recipes and stories will be food for thought, as well as for your table.
Jane Snow is one of those great food writers who is not only entertaining and appetizing to read but also delivers great cookable, eatable recipes. Recipes are high on flavor, low on processed ingredients, although she's not too snobby to put condensed chicken soup in her Almost KFC Chicken Pot Pie. (I hate to admit it; it looks like it would be a tasty quick dinner and I will probably try it.) I tried the Chicken Mole and it tasted like the ingredients had been slavishly prepared over hours, yet they were ready in 10 minutes without any loss of authenticity. That is definitely staying in my repertoire. Last night I got my family happily eating Winter Vegetable Hash (with the astounding emphasis on 'happily') Many recipes are for favorites from local area restaurants, but also much for the cook who doesn't know why Akronites light up at the thought of Lou & Hy's cheesecake. Lots of variety; definitely a book you could use cover-to-cover to put dinner on the table, whether for a worknight or a grand gathering. ....... one week later.... the pie was delicious and ordered onto the regular dinner menu....
A treasure I couldn't be without

I am really trying to buy fewer books, but after reading this from the library I decided it was a treasure I had to have on my own shelves! It's a wonderful chatty cookbook (the kind I like) and has excellent recipes. A real keeper, and great for Christmas gifts for my daughters.
