Before Richard III, there was in place a medieval feudal system. Power was in the hands of anyone that could get it and keep it. Richard III was the first to keep the power long enough to set up a central government that his neighbors could agree with. Richard fought for every territory he kept. He was able to hold on to the throne long enough to pass it on to his son, James III. James saw the struggle between Richard and his neighbors. James went about putting an end to this feudal system. James held on to the throne long enough to pass it to his son, John II. John continued with his father's work to unite the kingdoms. John passed his realm to his son, James IV. That is where our story begins. This is James's story.
