Jake and Carissa grew up together outside of Shelby, Montana where the sons were raised to be ranchers and the girls were raised to be rancher's wives. Jake called her his raven because of her midnight black hair. The two have been connected since kindergarten and everyone assumed they would get married, but Carissa didn't want to be just a rancher's wife. She wanted so much more. So she left Montana after high school and went to college in Minnesota. She became a corporate lawyer specializing in mergers, acquistions, and takeovers. Jake stayed behind in the hopes that one day Carissa would come back to him. But she didn't. He soon finds himself in the Navy as a way to forget about her.
