Huge cranes built the Highway 93 Bypass at Black Canyon for Hoover Dam. The bridge is 2000 feet long and 900 feet above the Colorado River. Starting in late January 2005, Tower Gantry type cranes were placed on each side of the canyon. Together the cranes moved 115 tons of material at one time. They helped construct the landing for the feet of the new bridge and then moved machinery into place as the work progressed. The Bypass was completed October 19, 2010. Although this book is a work of fiction, the characters are real and the historical information is accurate.
