All animals take notice when they hear a particular cough in the forest. It's the sound of a jaguar that is busy ruling its territory--alone. Jaguars avoid crossing paths with other jaguars by frequently making a hoarse coughing noise to announce their presence. But when hunting, a jaguar follows its prey in stealthy silence. Its spots help it blend in perfectly beneath shrubs or forest plants, making it nearly invisible until it pounces. In fact, no other animal poses a threat to these strong, skilled predators--except humans.
