my wife use to work with the guy

I remember reading this in 1984 or 1985. My wife worked with Mr. Halpern at a facility for those with some mental and/or physical challenges, in Derby CT. Jay is as unique as his book is. I'd like to get a copy of it as well. I agree with all of the other comments. This would be great on the big screen.

Fantastic read. The story sticks to your mind years later.

Came across this novel over 10 years ago in the library during exam-cram time in college. I ended up reading it instead of studying for my next day exams! I never can get enough of the story, and enjoy reading this book over and over.

Good Book that Someone Should Look at Making Into a Movie

I agree with the other revies a 100%. I rarely find time to read books due to my work schedule, but this book is one you have to read all the way through. Even now, a decade later, I still wish to read this book. I'm glad I still have my copy, due to multiple readings has become worn and I wish to buy a better copy. My advice to those who wish to find the book; I found mine in a bookstore that trades, this is how I've come across the book twice. Happy hunting.

Jade Unicorn needs a sequel

I read this book circa 1981. I chose it because of the title. I thought it might be some detective story like the Maltese Falcon. Had I known what it was about I never would have read it...But, I read the first two pages and I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! I normally don't read horror, the imagery was grusesome, but the story was so intriging, the fight between good and evil. The most interesting things were the tailsman that allowed the demoninc presence to enter this dimension, the description of the place where the demon resided, the papable feel of the suffering; and the conception and matrialineage of the one who would defeat the antichrist. As soon as I finshed I wanted to find the sequel ,for the ring fell to the ground and implied that another carnation of the antichrist would be back when someone picked it up. I wanted to read the story of the force of good born of the hero and a lesbian womon. The book was so powerful that I gave it to a friend before I realized that I would need to read it again and that there would be no sequel. If you EVER find a copy buy it, read it and keep it for future reference.

The Jade Unicorn: Scary as the devil himself!!

If one judges this book by it's title, one may say that it could be a pre-kindergarden story book. But once you read the first few pages you inmediately know that it is going to be a very strange ride to doom. The book is not the cliched conflict between good and evil, it is the conflict between (we may say) the devil himself, the demonic face of men, and the primitive instincts of human nature. The jade unicorn is presented in the story as a precious gem and later as a gigantic beast that, responding to the prayers of it's worshippers, comes out of a pit to kill mankind. But this is not the best part, the best part is when you stop reading for a break and you don't dare to get out of bed,not to even put your feet on the floor. Jay Halpern filled this book with so overwhelming images and well detailed description, that the book literarilly scares you shitless(pardon my french!). By the time you finish reading this book you'll need a few drinks and a 9mm under your pillow to maybe get an hour of sleep. It really is that good. It's too bad it is out of print; I'll have to go my old school library to read it again. ADVICE:Only read this book by daylight!
