There is action and intrigue throughout the book. Mary, Elizabeth and Lori are kidnapped by renegade Shoshone warriors. Zac and Jacob with the help of the ranch hands try to rescue them before they are ravished by the chief and his warriors. Shaun has his eye on Emily, but, Zac has a plan to make sure there isn't a spark between them. He wants Emily to marry Tim, the blacksmith. Shaun has a boil on his behind, and Zac literally has him over a barrel. Wahkan does a knife trick and operates on Shaun's boil. Zac conveniently asks for Emily to visit him during the process. When she comes to see Zac at the blacksmith's shop, all she sees is Shaun with his derriere up in the air. Now, whenever she sees Shaun's face, all she can see is him draped over the barrel.
