Detective Inspector Marks was under pressure to get results for Big Joe and the Hierarchy. The Hierarchy were losing wealth and assets at an unsustainable rate to maintain their power. That alone was a huge problem for the Hierarchy, however it was a much more pressing issue that someone or some rival group were able to better them in the first place. Who would have the ability to go against the Hierarchy and successfully take them on? Where would they be based? How were they infiltrating the Hierarchy? More importantly (for the Hierarchy anyway), rival gangs were whispering, talking between each other about Big Joe and his loss of control. Detective Inspector Marks knew that this would anger Big Joe more than anything. When it comes to being in power, the king of the underworld jungle looking weak and vulnerable would easily pave the way for others to move in and take control. Marks knew that this was a big problem for Big Joe and an even bigger problem for Marks to resolve quickly. Big Joe was pressuring Marks for answers. If Marks couldn't give him what he wanted, his fate would be sealed. Big Joe would destroy Marks and find another cop to bribe and own. Marks was a disposable asset; he needed to work fast.
