Jack Mercer, P.I. Files: Case File No. 9 The Devil's Backbone Murders

By Charles E. Barlow

When a decades-old disappearance is linked to a series of recent deaths along a remote mountain ridge known as Devil's Backbone, private investigator Jack Mercer is drawn into one of the most dangerous cases of his career.

Local legends tell of ghostly figures, mysterious lights, and a cursed trail that claims those who venture too far after dark. But Jack knows legends can sometimes hide very real crimes.

As he uncovers buried evidence, hidden motives, and long-forgotten secrets, Jack realizes someone is determined to keep the truth concealed-and is willing to kill again to protect it.

Every clue seems to point toward the supernatural, but Jack's investigation leads him toward something far more sinister.

The mountain has a legend. The dead have a story. Jack Mercer intends to uncover the truth.
