Truly an adventure worth watching. "Ivanhoe" (1982)

This is a retelling of the 1953 version, directed by Richard Thorpe with Robert Taylor, George Sanders, Joan Fontaine, and Elizabeth Taylor.
This is one of those movies that wrap you up in the story and the adventure. Many find that actors do not overwhelm the character they play. However, you do notice right off James Mason as Isaac of York because of the strange attire. An odd surprise is the inclusion of the Herald, John Hallam, who also plays Cedric Crackenthorpe in "Miss Marple: 4:50 from Paddington".
Much like the movie Avalon, where King Arthur is just a part of the story, it's interesting to see Robin Hood, a character featured in many films, also being only a part of the larger narrative. Usually, these films portray everything in black and white (good or bad); however, this version introduced shades of gray in both the story and the characters. Even Sam Neill as de Bois-Guilbert played a character who was both good and bad. He had to choose between faith, courage, love, and honor, often picking the wrong side, only to realize it too late.
The storyline follows fairly true, of which I will not repeat, as that is why you are buying the film. It is the getting there that makes this film interesting. You may find yourself kibitzing.
