Spot On!

Mrs. Mimi has hit the nail on the head with her book about second grade shenanigans! As a second grade teacher, I found many of her experiences similar to mine. She tells it like it is and uses humor to lessen the sting of the harsh reality of teaching. I laughed out loud many times. I recommend reading her book to anyone but especially to teachers! ;)

Mrs. Mimi has nailed it!

I was introduced to Mrs. Mimi and her blog by a colleague, and I quickly became a fan on Facebook. Mrs. Mimi has totally nailed it - I have met her colleagues, have seen the pasta product jewelry (not on me - let's be clear on that point), and know those children. I started laughing and nodding my head as soon as I read the title of the first chapter, because I basically had had the same thought - Holy Crap, It's August! Mrs. Mimi writes about the things that are so frustrating about being an educator - the ridiculous professional development days that leave you wondering why you just wasted a perfectly good day, the colleagues who are less-than-helpful, never getting to go to the bathroom while the children pee freely. If you are a teacher, you will laugh and nod your head, too, and if you aren't - well, you will gain a new appreciation of what good and dedicated teachers do to educate their students, as well as an interesting glimpse into what goes through one's mind when confronted with the ridiculous. The only down side to this book - it kept me up too late reading when I should have been getting my beauty rest so I could be as fabulous as Mrs. Mimi! (I need better shoes....)

Well said Mrs. Mimi!

This book is hilarious! I highly recommend it to teachers, those who know teachers, or anyone looking for a laugh. A great back-to-school read.

educating the friends

Mrs. Mimi has certainly captured what the essence of what teaching is about. Being able to block out the things that teachers have to deal with and focus on giving her "friends" the best she has to offer. Should be a must read for young elementary teachers as they learn what teaching is really about.

Hilarious, Absolutely HILARIOUS book!

Are the issues we face in schools the same everywhere? I feel like I teach at Mrs. Mimi's school. She does a brilliant job bringing humor to our day-to-day realities while also shedding light and wisdom on the need for some changes in our profession. Her love for her students permeates the book from the moments she tears up when her brilliant teaching allows for a "moment" to her desperation for more "time on task" (or is it "task on time?") Everybody I know will be reading this book to get a taste of a teacher's real life beyond the "summers off." I wish I knew more principals so I could spread the wisdom of the classroom teacher around the administrative world. Without a doubt classroom teachers wear the most hats, do the most work, and have the biggest impact on children. Mrs. Mimi confirms my beliefs and motivates me to focus on the important parts of school as the new year begins. BUY this book. Give it to everyone you know. It's snort out loud funny. It's insightful and it will (hopefully) make you respect good teachers even more than you did before.
