It's Lonely in This Town

You want to know about loneliness? Well...You're not alone At one point most of us try and figure out what it is that we're born to do in order to lead successful and meaningful lives. Jimmy Rhoades, is no different in this novel. However, what happens when there are no clear cut answers to questions that are begging for some kind of definitive solution? Lonliness. Many theories have been given to support what it is that makes us lean one way or the other in terms of depression, and or isolationist ways of thinking. The truth of it all boils down to the connection we feel with the environment we are surrounded by or live in. It's Lonely In This Town, demonstrates the internal conflict and challenges that many young men and women face today. Status is everywhere. It's seen on television, the movies; with our music icons, sports heroes, and our everyday "Youtube" gone viral messiahs. Being ordinary is unacceptable. We all feel it, and those caught in between wanting to have some kind of regularness in their lives, and what society says we should strive for, are hurting. Jimmy Rhoades, the main character in It's Lonely In This Town is a prime example. His journey takes him on an emotional, but familiar roller coaster that many of us today can relate to. How about love and romance It's hard to be lonely and confused without these two. Jimmy is not only at the mercy of his complex and non conventional psyche. He has Suzy on one hand, to help remind him of the power in being simple, and simply being loved--especially by her. On the other hand, there's Karen. Meeting her opens a world filled with diversity, and reveals a yearning deep within him for what's been missing his entire life. There's no greater truth than friendship Like the old saying,"friends are the family we choose", the brotherly bond between Jimmy and Thomas goes deeper than blood. Though miles away, embarking on journeys of his own, Thomas' voice is like a song in Jimmy's head. Every memory, like a melody, is played over in Jimmy's mind again and again. Every truth and half truth that Thomas shares with Jimmy over the years, is a guide that Jimmy grows to depend on heavily. Loss We all experience it. The level it is experienced on, in many ways determines our direction of growth. Unfortunately, what Jimmy loses, sets him up for a spiritual pit fall that not everyone comes out of. Self Discovery Nothing of value ever comes easy. Self discovery is no different. Though it is essentially a tale of one person's journey, everyone in Jimmy's life has to go through much of what he does, "growing up". Life is a lesson for us all, and no one comes out unscathed, but what lies at the end, is sometimes more beautiful than what any of us could imagine.
