Why can't there be a book about lesbian love without a baby?

Yes, this was a fun book, and the evil boss subtheme will strike a chord in anyone. But my problem with it seems to be infecting all of society these days, both lesbian and het: I'm talking about the baby thing. Maybe I'm a bit sore, but it seems that lately whenever I pick up a book about girl/girl love, there always has to be a baby involved. This does not seem to reflect contemporary lesbian life at least not in my circles. In addition, I feel like the baby subplot was awkwardly inserted in this book, almost as if the writer was wrestled into sandwiching it in there. Other than that, a nice pool read.

Things Shared Between Girlfriends

Elizabeth Dean has done something I thought was impossible: make lesbian book that doesn't end in tragedy. This book was quirky, upbeat, happy, optimistic, and entertaining. It isn't depressing, heartbreaking, or gloomy. It was pure entertainment. I laughed at Dean's humorous plot about the staff of a lesbian television station, who schemes against the boss to take over the company. I fell in love with all the characters, especially C.J., Maria, and Shantel. The writing was superb and kind of different. I'm very much looking forward to a sequel or any other book written by Elizabeth Dean. Thank you for making a light, entertaining read!

fun book

I read this book in just one weekend and I loved it. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was the ending. I don't always like cute happy endings if they don't fit the story very well. Having said that, I enjoyed the characters and their relationships. Ms. Dean treated this story with the grace and sensitivity it deserves. Lesbians can find true love too!

Absolutely fabulous!

"It's In Her Kiss" is a fun, page-turning, entertaining read for all women. The book's main character, CJ, is heading a team of five writers at a new lesbian television network called L-TV. The book brilliantly portrays the trials of working with a difficult boss and the bonds that form among colleagues as a result. Normally I find it a challenge to keep track of more than 5 major characters, but the author gives each woman a distinct voice -- all have quirks and histories of their own. The dialogue is witty ("We like her. We really like her," says one writer when she learns of Sally Field's interest in playing the lead in one of L-TV's prime-time shows), and the plot moves quickly, making it a suspenseful and entertaining read. Most fun of all is the author's vision for a cable television network that puts women at the forefront: a woman hosting her own home-improvement show; a woman starring in L-TV's vision of The West Wing, with the U.S. President not only a woman but a lesbian. In the end, although the book features plenty of lost love and betrayal, it's all about friendship and girl power -- and what's better than that? I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a fun, fast-paced book that really celebrates women.

A Fun Read For Women Of All Orientations

Finally, a summer read for lesbians that's fun. Kudos to Kensington for realizing that gay readers come in two genders.This behind-the-scenes look at a fictional LTV (Lesbian Television Network) is a perfect beach book. This fast-paced fantasy where all the women find perfect girlfriends and Emmy award nominations, too, makes for great escapism.It's a fun read for women of all orientations!
