After a swift recalling of youth, this book initially may be perceived as an American college novel, following the author through three years at a Midwestern university and two years at a fledgling 4-year college in Steamboat Spring, Colorado. But, included are one year as an Army correspondent in Vietnam, a stint as a reporter for UPI in Chicago and a quick trip to Europe. The primary tale concerns the author's 25 years of living in Steamboat from 1965 to 1990. The journey includes the building of a rustic cabin on 40 acres, a lost love and acid trips and adventures. Partially written in journal form and inter-spaced with poetry, the reader fins the author struggling to find meaning in a world overshadowed by incurable romanticism. Laying dormant for nearly a quarter of a century, the book only now relates the author's experiences and revelations. The reader is left to decide whether all these things truly happened.
