Human resource concerns are no longer peripheral to organizational goals and objectives. However, human resource issues are often more like dilemmas than typical problems in organizations. Dilemmas do not have one best answer, and they are particularly prone to values and emotions coloring the problems. This text provides an overview of current issues that are relevant to human resource professionals as well as all members of an organization. The intent is to provide a contemporary overview of the issues and problems in the workplace.Although all of the chapters refer to major research studies and are followed by selected references, for the most part, the text is written from an issues perspective. The intent is to use it as a reference, update on issues, or initial overview for those worrying about the potential role these dilemmas will play in the workplace. One of the ways in which difficult workplace issues can be addressed is by using these chapters as neutral beginnings for complex discussions. Students with less work expense are assisted and directed by end of chapter discussion questions, role plays, experimental exercises, and debate statements. These could also be used in training sessions for organizations.
