Isolation

Joseph Foxworthy the 4th endured a difficult and sometimes brutal childhood living mostly in poverty with his parents. After marrying he is separated from his wife and parents after being drafted into the Union Army during the American Civil War. As a soldier he is forced to kill a man in hand-to-hand combat emotionally scaring him for life. After his family dies in a fire set by an arsonist Joseph rejects human society entirely and strands himself on a deserted island where he lives in isolation some 60 years with only his cats for company. We follow his memoirs.
