Islands of Vengeance: The fall of the Pequot Nation

When he arrives in the newly formed Connecticut Colony in 1634, Peter Wallace embarks on a journey of self-actualization. Well groomed, well educated, and prepared for his job as sheriff, he finds chaos after the murder of an affable Englishman, Jon Miller. Peter works hard at assimilating with the local Indians and takes a big leap of trust by befriending a Pequot from the tribe that may be hiding the murderer.Turmoil spreads throughout the region after incidents of mistaken identity spark violence among native Indians and English settlers. Wallace, using his cool head and determination, must cope with warlike Pequot's, a revengeful Dutch Captain, and a meddling Minister. His life becomes even more complicated when he marries headstrong Anne Miller, the murdered man's daughter, only to discover that she is using him for wealth and power. Things come to a head when he sees his one trusted Indian friend hung by mistake. In parallel with Wallace's trials, 19-year-old Running-bird, a Manissean living with her tribe on Block Island, delivers her first child during a violent thunderstorm. A Mohegan raiding party kills her warrior husband that same night. Running-bird has the gift of a seer and overcomes her long grief as she discovers her child has it too. She senses Wallace's arrival and feels the decency in his soul. Luck sends Wallace to Block Island. He meets Running-bird who is hunted by the vengeful Mohegans. The two find comfort and love as they strive to find a way for peace, and eventually discover the murderer of Jon Miller.Islands of Vengeance is filled with historical events, such as Captain John Endicott's raid on Block Island and the Pequot War of 1636. A surprise ending regarding the true murderer of Jon Miller should delight readers.
