This book is written about the island of Oléron where I have lived for 13 years. I have frequently walked my dogs along the dunes by the old wartime blockhouses so it was fascinating to read how they came to be there. The writer was of a white russian family and wrote her memoirs of a young girl in the war years here. Each time I go to the mediatheque in nearby St Denis village I pass the rue du port where she lived. I ordered this book for part of our family who live in New York and visit us as often as they can, they love the island and also take a keen interest in its past. They were thrilled with this book, the writer now lives in USA.
