Claire Wynter returns to the U.S. from a successful search for her missing grandmother in Jamaica, where Karl Grayson from the island's well-to-do class, descendants of English settlers, had taken an interest in her while helping her in the search. Claire brings back with her the memory of their nascent romance and her promise to return to Karl soon. But when her close friend develops what seems to be a promising relationship, Claire has second thoughts and is stirred to revive her near-romance with Karl. She makes a call to the island, connects with him, and life for her takes a dramatic turn.
