I picked up a copy of this at a yard sale right after 9/11. It is scholarly writing; the insights Smith had in 1953(the year of my paperback) were prescient of what has transpired since he wrote Islam in Modern History. I urge anyone who wants a dispassionate analysis of the subject to read this book. Remember that this was written almost 50 years before 9/11, so that the emotional haze that current writings have are absent from his treatment of the topic. Excellent.
Great!

The book was as described, actually much better than described and arrived on time. As far as the actual book content, the book was recommended for my independent studies of Islam from an historical and modern day perspective. I had first heard the book on an Audiobook from Audible and the coming together of the purely spoken and written versions was quite interesting and educational in as far as the arabic names and transliterations. Anyone interested in knowing more about this culture/religion should read this book, in my opinion. It's recommended if not required reading!
