Ishrat and Bari, both second generation Asian immigrants, struggle to cope with their ethnicity, cultural heritage, and identity in 1990s Britain. Leaving behind the comfort of cultural values which bind their community together they search for a sense of belonging in a country they have only ever witnessed as outsiders. They find an England tainted by the fear and prejudice often found in immigrant communities which inhibit their social integration in a world which is alien to everything they experienced growing up. Ishrat and Bari make decisions with consequences far beyond those they could have imagined which take them on an emotional rollercoaster in search of what it means to belong.
