Prayer-like rhymes express a child's eagerness for Christmas day, as a tree is decorated, a card is made, a pageant is performed, and other preparations are made. Includes quotations from the Good News Bible.
My daugher, age 2, loves this book. We read it at least every night, and I don't mind a bit! The format is a short poem on each page that talks about a different thing surrounding Christmas such as "Glitter", "Nativity", "Donkey", "Christmas Lights", etc. There are probably 10 or so poems. Each poem is accompanied by a Bible verse and a related illustration on the opposite page. The poems are written as innocent conversations with God.I think that she likes the book because the poems are short, and each one allows for some variance in how you read it. Sometimes we read the entire book, and other times we read the same poem many times. I like that the conversational style models that she can pray about anything, and I also appreciate the way that so many simple Christmas subjects are presented in relation to our faith. Sometimes when she is sitting quietly, I am able to read the accompanying Bible verse. Verses are from throughout the Bible, and not only the Christmas story. It is not a board book, but seeing the wrinkled pages reminds me of how much she is really enjoying this book!
