good example of modern family life

A good example of realistic fiction, "Is Everyone Moonburned but Me?" is told from the perspective of "ordinary," middle child Hannah. Hannah's parents are divorced and each one is in a new relationship. Not only is she dealing with the possibility of new family members, but she must also contend with her beautiful older sister and her spoiled baby sister. Parts of the book are predictable, but overall the storytelling is humorous and clever. Hannah must look past her dependability and realize the qualities that make her special. A quick read that will appeal to middle children, children with divorced parents and stepfamilies, and children searching for their niche.

Hannah is the middle child -- sandwiched in between a popular older sister and a spoiled and pretty younger sister. Her parents are divorced, and she is dealing with the new relationships her parents are forming. Throughout the book Hannah begins to realize that she isn't so ordinary after all, and that she is special too. Although this book deals with some serious issues, the tone is humorous and kids will relate to Hannah.
