Soprano and flutist Margaret Ellen (Meg) Fitzgerald, was born into an artistically involved family, and grew up in the cultural town of Annapolis, Maryland, USA. Music of all forms was an integral part of life, and she performed in various musicalcapacities, both as a flutist and a singer throughout her youth. At the Summer Garden Theater, she sang as a soloist, and also played piccolo with the Annapolis Symphony. After receiving her highschool diploma, on scholarship to the Interlochen Arts Academy, Michigan, Meg went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music (cum laude) from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, as a flute major. She was then awarded a scholarship for graduate study in Germany, initially as a flutist, but changed her major to voice upon entering the Opera School of the Detmold College of Music. As a soprano soloist, Meg has appeared professionally in Opera performances, in Oratorio concerts, as well as in Song and Chamber Music recitals of various styles, including Classical, Jazz, and Celtic programs. She teaches singing and flute in Paderborn, Germany, and performs in concert capacities both there and abroad. While on sabbatical, she later earned a Master of Arts in Music (summa cum laude) at Connecticut College. Through concerts as the Duo Chitarra Canta, she has also specialized in programs for voice and classical guitar, in collaboration with her husband, Guido Boger. Their first CD, Aisling Irish Art Songs & Music, met with critical acclaim, and is the basisfor the Mel Bay songbook. A song from this CD was also featured in the Irish film Rfan/Trace, which won first prize for Best International Narrative Short at the New York International Independant Film Festival, 2010
