Involvement of the family in the care

All international organizations are mobilized to fight HIV effectively. In this perspective, various approaches are implemented but many of them have shown their limits. An analysis of these failures allows us to identify, among other reasons, the low level of community involvement, particularly that of the family, in the care of PLWHA. In an attempt to overcome this, the NGO-ADIAS has implemented a family approach model that consists of: (i) negotiating with the PLWHIV, the announcement of his serological status to his family; (ii) announcing his status to his family; (iii) identifying his family and its needs; (iv) sensitizing and educating his family on HIV and its implications; (v) reinforcing his family's socio-economic capacities in view of an appropriate ECP. After four years (2010-2013), a survey was carried out in 2014 to assess the impact of this approach on PLHIV's ECP. This survey, based on the concept "Awlobo-Nd?" which means "family affair" in the Baule language, consisted of administering a questionnaire to 10 families out of 148 involved in the care of PLWHA.
