AN OUTSTANDING DEBUT

Apt title - Involved, for following a careless automobile accident the lives of four are inextricably tangled. Holland born Habers sets the pace of this intriguing first novel with a riveting opening paragraph and does not slacken his tempo until the story reaches its startling conclusion. While Bram Aardsen is driving down the road, his attention is drawn to an overhead plane. He does not see the legs of the young boy who is flat on his stomach at the mouth of a culvert tracking his homemade sailboat. An accident occurs. Overcome by grief and guilt, Aardsen visits his fatherless victim, Dick Verwal, in the hospital. He finds a spirited, courageous young man with a beautiful mother, Pauline, who is apparently forgiving. The plot ripens as Aardsen's jealous wife, Francien, hurls accusations. Later, Francien is involved in an accident of her own which eventually places her in the public eye. These four make up an unforgettable cast of characters.
