Zechariah wrote and spoke to a people who badly needed some encouragement during a frightening time. Everyone around them seemed to be against the work of God being accomplished, and threats on their very lives and families came right from the top of the political heap. If God's people continued to do what God called them to do in spite of all the opposition, would God be able to carry it through? God pulled back the curtain in Zechariah and showed them and us that He is well aware of our situations and in absolute
control of bringing His will to pass despite the rise and fall of nations. The people in Zechariah's day and we in our own need to get a glimpse beyond the raging of nations and the frustrations of human squabbles small and great. God in His goodness invites us in through Zechariah's visions and prophecies to see where things were going despite how the times may appear. Jesus takes center stage in Zechariah's prophecies as God reveals not just the downfall of wicked nations but the defeat of sin's dominion over
the hearts of man through the redemptive work of Christ for all who believe.
