Invitations to the Good

As the title suggests, Invitations to the Good is a collection of poetry composed with the intention of inspiring all of us to look to our better selves. Here are over 130 poems-most of them short, many of them untitled-that cut to the essence of their intended message. For example, one reads simply, "It is not for me to judge / It is for me to choose." Most of these poems reflect the poet's wish that we each look to our own personal mirrors for guidance. The message is personal, not religious. One poem encourages us to wear something we treasure found in our "closet full of stuff." Another suggests that the weight of money is "too heavy to lift in a poem." However, not all of these verses are ethereal in their subject matter. There are poems about selfies and GPS and an elegy to a dear friend of the poet. Other poems are devoted to world events as contemporary as the attacks on the Bataclan nightclub in Paris and the 2016 presidential election. Those seeking purpose in a turbulent age will find clarity within these pages.
