A riveting memoir of a young mother's sudden blindness that thrusts her literally into total darkness. Dropped off blind and alone at the emergency room Oles begins an unintended journey to meet God. The book is the expose of her adventure during a 45 minute MRI, as doctors frantically try and find out what has happened to her. During a mere 45 minutes Oles flashes back on her entire life, faces her hidden past, and miraculously encounters God in the midst of silence, cold and darkness. A VERY touching book about God's grace. He truly sees us and reaches out to us, even when we feel totally isolated and alone! I was deeply engrossed in every page and couldn't put it down. What I was not expecting was the last two pages! (Don't worry, this isn't really a spoiler alert). On those pages you realize the co-writer is actually her MOTHER, one of the sources of her pain! Wow, such bravery and honestly from BOTH writers. The memoir is told completely from Kerrie Oles point of view. It must have tore her mother apart to write the truth of her daughter's perspective and not interfere trying to defend herself. Well written and begging for a movie version to follow, I loved Invisible Chains!
