The book has a concise explanation for how to do the problems, followed by lots of practice exercises. That's it. NO illustrations, NO stupid sidebars, NO "study tips" to distract you. Also, it's a nice size for referring to while writing. Some math books (especially the paperback ones with all the superfluous writing and pics) are not made with how they will be used in mind. There is nothing slippery, unwieldy, or awkward about this volume, and it works just as well on the kitchen table as it does when you have your legs propped up on the couch while working the problems. I give it A++
