Introduction to the New Testament: The Chronological New Testament 3rd Edition Volume 1

This third edition of the Chronological New Testament is the result of over a decade of intensive study. It provides a unique translation and interpretation of the whole New Testament, using eight types of Biblical criticism to interpret the writings. It avoids the reading-back of later Christian theology and tradition into the text, and employs a chronological approach, which allows the reader to perceive dependency and development between the books. This results, not only in a dramatic new understanding of the background of the works, but also many particular insights in translation and interpretation. Volume one provides an introduction, giving information on authorship, dating, structure, and background. The ten-volume work is a must-have for any student of the New Testament.

The Revd Christopher Huggett, BA, MPhil, PGCE, is a New Testament scholar and process theologian, whose books have sold on five continents. He brings to his work a lifetime of Christian commitment and the experience of over thirty years of parochial ministry. He has devised an innovative methodology for the study of the New Testament, which has revolutionized our understanding of the works themselves, and of the early history of Christianity which underlies them. His work is an essential part of any New Testament study.

He began his formal theological studies in the late sixties under the direction of Anthony Hanson, one of the foremost New Testament scholars of the sixties and seventies, and continued until the early nineties. He continued to study informally until taking early retirement in 2010.

During his career, he worked as a teacher of Religious Education at both church and state schools, and as a full-time lay worker and priest in the Church of England. He served in city, town, and village parishes in three dioceses in the north of England.

Following his retirement, he has returned to full-time theological research, developing a distinctive, systematic theology and a new methodology for New Testament study. He has written many theological works, especially in the field of New Testament interpretation. Foremost of these is this ten-volume translation and commentary on the whole of the New Testament.

He lives in West Yorkshire with his wife, Alexandra, and their Poochon, Ambrose.
