Solid book with good info

Im a pretty experienced network admin, but I needed to come up to speed a bit on security basics as part of a new project I've been assigned. This book proved very helpful. Its clearly written and has good illustrations and does a nice job of walking one through security. Too basic for an expert of course--but if you are like me and have bits and pieces of knowledge about security it does a good job of helping you connect the dots.

Good Background for Your New Assignment

When I first picked up this book I noticed that the title started with 'Introduction.' And the back cover of the book says that it is 'Beginning to Intermediate' level. I wanted something a bit more than the basic simple 'run anti-virus software' level books. And on the other hand I didn't want something that merely told you how to configure your super dooper Cisco invasion protection hardware or the various Microsoft . This book was exactly at my level. That is, one with reasonable experience in computing, but little depth in the security area. It talks about security at virtually all levels from surveys of what end users are thinking to the various OSI levels. It provides the background, the basic understanding that a systems administrator or anyone else responsible for protecting your network from the bad guys that are out there. The CD included with the book contains almost as much material (maybe even more) than the book including standards, white papers, programs and more.
