This project grew from the striking realization that secondary education textbooks frequently are pitched to and designed for young men. They often lacked clarity of instruction and vocabulary for young digital natives. The approach seemed reminiscent of the thirty-year-old texts the instructors themselves learned. This text attempts to correct those problems. We have designed it so that students are able to build on their knowledge of IT. The book has intentionally used language that ICT students of today use in their current interactions with technology. Technical terms have been defined for students throughout the book Exercises at the end of each chapter allow students to see individual growth in knowledge and instructors to see the level of progress individual students are making. The curriculum herein makes use of a variety of pronouns and experiential backgrounds in order that students can imagine their future selves as ICT experts. Moreover, the book applauds and highlights the women who have been central in the development of technology, thusly helping to correct perceptions of computer science as a field for men.
