Wonderfully suspenseful

Into the Nevernight begins by gently tugging at your heart, then, page-by-page, the surprisingly powerful voices and message entwine themselves deeply within you, probably forever. Anne de Graaf gifts her readers with vivid insight of shocking tragedy and promising triumphs surrounding the child soldiers of Africa. A great read!

This story changed my heart, not just my mind

"Nevernight" took me by surprise. Though I willingly became involved in the character's lives, I felt as if my own heart was enlightened as I read. Anne de Graaf describes Africa first-hand so that you can almost taste the dust and feel the heat. Her story is based on real issues and happenings. I guess that's why, at the end of the book, I realized I had to do something about what I'd read, especially about children forced to be soldiers in Africa. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

Great action in a real-life context

I enjoyed the development of this story and characters and felt really pulled into the real, far away, and tragic world of child soldiers. I learned a lot while reading about the trauma of one family who became victims in this all too real African situation. Good to know there are people dedicated to helping people work through the trauma, and can't wait to read how this happens as Book 1 leaves you hanging. Hurry up with Book 2, Anne!

powerful insightful look a radically different lens

In 1992 Owen O'Neill is a highly regarded international peace negotiator whose recent failure in Ireland, partly caused by family ties to the IRA hurts badly. He feels Mozambique is where he can do some good and erase the stigma that he alone feels he failed in Ireland. However, his travels has alienated him with his wife of eight years, attorney Miriam, who wants a second child and feels he needs to stay home more with her and their seven year old son Martin.Owen leaves for Africa with an upset Miriam left behind. Their phone calls are not amiable as Miriam feels her do-gooder spouse needs to spend more time with his family. However, when Martin has a bad dream in which he insists Owen needs them, she arranges for the two to meet him in Kenya. The three O'Neills spend quality time together until arms dealers concerned with a depressed business due to potential peace in Mozambique hire Yuri Falin to abduct the trio. Only Miriam escapes and she will move bureaucracies and mountains to save her husband and son.INTO THE NEVERNIGHT starts a bit slow but enables the reader to fully understand the traits and motives of Owen and Miriam. Fans who give the novel a chance will quickly find a deep tale as motivations become apparent and in turn anchor a strong thriller with moral lessons inside a plot in which nothing will stop Miriam from trying to rescue her loved ones. A deep, rich book you'll love!

"Into the Nevernight" swept me away to a continent encompassed by greed and desire, where thousands of children are caught up in a war not their own. From the first few chapters, I was taken into another world--one not well known by us Westerners. On this journey, I soon fell in love with the characters: Miriam, Owen, Martin, and the children of Africa. And before long they became REAL as I laughed and cried with them while they fought for their lives . . . and their souls. I read a lot of books, but this is the one I've found myself recommending to friends time and time again. If you'd like a story that will take you deep into Africa, a story that will bury itself deep into your heart, you have to read this book.
