Four years following the first official adventures of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Frodo and Bilbo Baggins have just started on their voyage to the undying lands with Gandalf and the elves of the white pilgrimage. They haven't gotten too far when a terrible storm at sea sweeps over their ship severely damaging it and delaying the voyage. Frodo is thrown overboard and almost drowns, but ?bony, a beautiful mermaid princess from the underwater kingdom of Atlantis saves him, even though her father, King Trition has made a degree forbidding the contact between land sea dwellers, the same year that Sauron's ring of power was cast back into the Cracks of Doom. Therefore, after she regains consciousness after fainting from dragging Frodo up to the surface, she jumps back into the sea before she and Frodo can properly introduce themselves. So, after being reunited with the other white pilgrims, Frodo asks if they can stay a week longer in middle earth so he can look for the one who rescued him and repay her good deed towards him when he finds her; all the while he also tries to help his cusion Meriadoc Brandybuck (or Merry) and his former gardener Samwise Gamgee (or Sam) persuade his other cusion Peregrin Took (or Pippin who flees betrayed by Frodo's sudden departure from the Shire) to go home with out him, as well as unknowingly pointing Radagast the brown in the direction of someone he owes a great deed to. Meanwhile, ?bony torn between her love for Frodo and her loyalty to her father remains one sided before comming to an obvious but drastic decision.
