Four young women from different parts of the United States meet under extraordinary circumstances when they choose to become mermaids for the newly opened Wonderful Water World in 1960. Drawn to the sunny climes and easy lifestyle of the Gulf Coast of Florida, they embark on an adventure beyond their wildest dreams as they learn to not only become mermaid performers but also are schooled in how to be proper young ladies. Friendships are forged as they become family and when the park closes almost a decade later, the four Sirens of the Deep Blue find themselves adrift in a changed world and have to create new identities. Despite their best intentions they drift apart until the death of one brings the remaining three back together.
