International Crop Science I

This book contains 109 chapters and 23 discussion papers written by renowned scientists from throughout the world that resulted from the First International Crop Science Congress. The topics are of global significance and crucial to crop scientists worldwide. More than half the chapters were written by scientists from countries outside ofNortb America. Subject matter presented in this book is organized into five general sections that correspond to the five program themes of the Congress: Sustainable Agriculture, Environmental Change, Biodiversity, Crop Improvement, and Advances in Physiology and Molecular Biology. Each section is introduced by a lead chapter and three complementary chapters, which correspond to the papers of the plenary speaker and three discussants. The first gives an overview of the topic and the next three critically evaluate or complement many of the issues raised by the lead chapter. The four beginning chapters in each section are followed by a discussion paper that highlights important points raised during the discussion sessions that followed presentation of the plenary and discussant papers at the Congress.
