This book "Institutionalisation" is a collection of thoughts decanted as poetry. My time institutionalised by the Maltese state left me physically and mentally scared affecting life daily. The man who stood beside me in my case took his own life during our prison sentence. Others like him I leave behind on an Island I am banned from reentering. Deported to the UK 14 years after leaving on an adventure, I found settling back into family life surprisingly easy, but aspects of social connections I seemed to have lost forever. This separated me from people and family I love. Institutions are the foundations of our society. They are our peers and role models. They decide who we are and what we do. They are inescapable. Each one moulds us, works us, and then discards us. Within this book are some of my award-winning poems from prison, and many others containing raw emotions that leave my fear, love, and soul bare to view and chew. Questions tap away in my silence, will you hear them too?
