Instigating Profligacy: Aviva and Aisha's Adventures in the World

Twenty-something Aviva moved to Cairo shortly after graduating from college with a degree in elementary education. She became a teacher not because she cared passionately about educating the young, but for the traveling opportunities the career provided.

Aviva's best friend, Aisha, has visited her mother's family in Cairo on several occasions. When she's twenty-four, she decides to move to Egypt to live with them for a year or two. But there are problems from the beginning. When Aviva's roommate abandons her, the two friends become roommates, setting them up for some unforgettable exploits.

Aviva and Aisha's worldly adventures range from hilarious to traumatic, taking them from Egypt to its neighbors and even farther east. Together, they suffer from culture shock that is worse the second year than the first. It comes from realizing that they've been desensitized to things that once stunned or saddened them-and causes them to question their own sanity. They get into and out of trouble, both at work and on vacation; learn new languages; and make friends and enemies along the way.

One important lesson is reiterated everywhere they go-if they don't try to apply American logic, everything makes more sense

Instigating Profligacy: Aviva and Aisha's Adventures in the World is based on author E. G. Barbuto's experiences living, working, and vacationing in the Middle East and Asia.

Funny Middle East/Asian Chick Lit!

Loved it! The last reviewer obviously didn't read parts 2 or 3 which take place in Israel and Korea. If he or she had read those parts, he or she would know that the characters had equally frustrating encounters with Jewish extremists, Muslim extremists, Christian extremists, and Canadians.

Highly Recommended!!!!

Take a virtual trip around the world! I really liked reading about both the good and bad aspects of living abroad. E.G. Barbuto doesn't make it seem glamourous, but Aviva and Aisha still have lots of memorable experiences that could only happen abroad. I'm recommending Aviva and Aisha's Adventures to everyone.

a great read

This was a fabulous read. It was entertainig to hear about the world adventures of the two characters. It is refreshing to see a book of this sort ina time when people do not travel much. Hopefully this will ignite a travel bug in many people. This is a must read. Very entertaining. I am sorry to see negative reviews on this book, but it is obvious that those people hold personal grudges against the author for what ever reason (pretty immature if you ask me). DOn't take their word about the book-this is a fabulous read, as I am sure the author is!

a fun book

This was a fun book to read. If your looking for a book that is exciting then I suggest this book. It was really funny. I took it to work, and read it on my breaks--always returning to my job with a renewed energy after spending a good time with this book. I don't usually write reviews. But I really thought this book was good, and was dismayed by the criticism that obviously the author and not the book is recieving. I do not know the author, but I do suggest that this book should be bought!

fun and funny

I do not know E.G. I'm not sure why people wrote reviews reviewing the author and not the book, but I thought this book was really a lot of fun to read. It was very funny. If your looking for a good, relaxing book then I suggest this book.
