Instead Of Many: A Theological Treatise (1880)

By Robert Graves Walker

Book Overview

Instead Of Many: A Theological Treatise is a book written by Robert Graves Walker and published in 1880. The book is a comprehensive exploration of the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, which asserts that there is one God in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The author argues that this doctrine is not only biblically sound, but also logically and philosophically defensible.Walker begins by examining the historical development of the doctrine of the Trinity, tracing its roots to the early Christian church and its subsequent refinement through the work of theologians such as Augustine and Aquinas. He then delves into the biblical basis for the doctrine, citing numerous passages from both the Old and New Testaments that support the idea of a triune God.Throughout the book, Walker addresses various objections to the doctrine of the Trinity, such as the charge that it is inherently contradictory or that it undermines the unity of God. He also explores the practical implications of the doctrine, discussing how it relates to Christian worship, prayer, and the sacraments.Overall, Instead Of Many: A Theological Treatise is a thoughtful and scholarly examination of one of the most fundamental beliefs of the Christian faith. It offers a compelling defense of the doctrine of the Trinity and provides valuable insights into its theological and practical significance. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
