Using her expertise as an award-winning elementary school library media specialist, Wanamaker has created a useful resource containing everything a librarian needs "for a year of library instruction for the littlest library learners." The 36 1-hour lessons cover both fiction and non-fiction titles in children's literature and address six key learning areas: library skills, literature appreciation, techniques of learning, comprehension, writing experiences, and oral language. Each lesson includes a featured book, lesson learning and ideas, materials needed, a "before class task to complete" check off list, and a lesson plan. Wanamaker also provides worksheets and pictures to either color or cut out and glue. An introduction explains how to use the book, suggests library floor-plan layouts, and songs (with hand motions) to sing at the beginning of the lesson to help settle and focus the children. This book was very helpful for giving ideas but should you not have one of the books suggested for the lesson it is difficult to find a substitute.
