Take a town over two hundred years old, with a population whose roots are nearly as ancient. Move new people in as the old guard dies out and there is bound to be a clash under the best of circumstances. Especially, when the new people come with "new" money and change the city building permits to follow Historic Preservation guidelines. Then, they vote in tax abatements for themselves for renovating their vintage homes. It doesn't take long for a couple of senior ladies to protest the preferential property taxes for the wealthy "newbies" and new rules for home repairs which are costly on senior incomes. Someone soon takes revenge on the new people. Is it because these new people have given themselves tax breaks? Or, could a hometown citizen resent the new residents having romantic liaisons with children of longtime locals? Love, money, or both; someone has caused the welcome mat to be a tripping hazard.
