Was Mati the last great surrealist? Definately great. Probably not the last considering painters like Bob Venosa are still kicking and others like Aaron Horkey are just getting started. In any case, his landscapes painted in the late 1970s and early 1980s demonstrate a much more subtle, mature approach to the genre. The book is about 10 inches x 10 inches, which doesn't do justice to the 43 amazingly detailed works, some of which are 6 feet x 6 feet. But then again, neither would a book twice that size.
