More than a boy and his dog story

This delightful book completely entertained me as I read it. It's a sweet and funny tale of a young boy growing up mostly alone on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country. His antics with his dog Inky are laughable and heart-warming, bringing back memories of past beloved dogs in our lives. In the book the author says that the dog raised him, and indeed I think that Inky did just that! It's a glimpse of life in that simple time, if pre-and-post war times were simple at all. I will be ordering more of these books for my pet-loving friends who will be as entertained as I was while reading it.
