INHERITING ELYSE (Maddison, Indiana Thrillers)

(Book #2 in the Maddison, Indiana Supernatural Thriller Series)

Heart-breaking and heart-pounding supernatural thriller After a crushing family tragedy, Melinda inherits her aunt''s farm in Maddison, Indiana. The farm was once lovely, but her aunt was a hoarder and the house is packed with boxes, toys and dolls. Lots of dolls. Even hoarded, the farm should be the perfect place for her family to heal and rebuild. Melinda, her husband and teenage step-daughter soon realize they''ve inherited more than the farm. As they clear the house of boxes, their true inheritance is released. Can Melinda''s mind survive the legacy left to her? Can her family? Supernatural suspense readers like you say, "Read this book with the lights on, all of them. And keep a box of tissues handy." Book Two in the Maddison, Indiana Supernatural Thrillers Series. Each book in the series can be read separately, but some characters and aspects of each story is woven into the others. You can read them out of order, but reading in order offers the fullest enjoyment. Book One is "Marked by Darkness." An excerpt from "Inheriting Elyse" Mojo''s small bark wakes me from a fitful sleep. Melinda is not in our bed. The mussed quilt on her side shows she had been here, but she''s gone now. At the edge of my consciousness, footprints fill the hall. After years of marriage, I''m familiar with the sound and pacing of her footsteps. These are not hers. They''re not Faye''s either. My body shocks into alertness, my ears straining to hear the action in the hallway. Whoever''s walking in the hall is not alone. The steps aren''t heavy and rhythmic. They sound more like hail, dozens of tiny steps running up and down the hall. Faye is at the other end of the hall, whatever''s on the other side of this door must not get to her. I flip off the quilt and dash to the closed door. I open it an inch and peek into the hall. I slam the door in disbelief, not trusting what my eyes just saw. Down the hall, Mojo barks wildly. Thank God, Faye has the dog to protect her. Throwing the door open, I rush into the hall, ready to kick the running dolls away. The hall is empty. A moment ago, the hall had been full of dolls, running on stiff legs, darting around in their fine dresses. I''d prepared to kick them off the landing, toss them away. Faye stands in her open doorway, holding Mojo by the collar. Our terrified eyes meet in the gloom. "Did you see them?" I ask in a panic. I''m not sure which would be worse, that I saw the dolls or that I imagined them. Faye nods heavily. "They were running everywhere. Then they disappeared." My mind reels for an answer that makes any kind of sense, a tentative link to reality. I suddenly realize Melinda hasn''t joined us. "Where''s Mel?" "She couldn''t have made the dolls do that, right?" Faye asks. "Melinda?" I call loudly. Tiny giggles float up the stairs. I stalk down the hall. "This isn''t funny, Melinda." I look over the banister into the front room, expecting to see my wife giggling at a prank. Dolls sit on every pile, on every surface. Faye gasps. Dozens of dolls stare up at us, each one may have been cute on her own, but the sheer number of them is terrifying. "Melinda?" Real fear seeps into me now. "This doll thing is getting out of hand." After what happened to Faye, I can''t imagine how this is affecting her. "I''m really getting angry, Melinda." More giggling filters up to the landing, but Melinda continues to hide, if she''s in the house at all. ------ To find out what happens next, just click the Buy Now button.
