This much-anticipated new edition reviews state-of-the-art information technology. It describes how information systems can support high-quality patient care and improve management decisions in healthcare organizations. Authors Charles Austin and Stuart Boxerman provide sufficient technical detail on computer hardware, software, networks, and telecommunications to enable the manager to become conversant with modern information technology and its use in healthcare organizations. An effective information system can help managers make intelligent use of the information collected, leading to improved strategic planning, decision support, program management, patient care, and continuous quality improvement. Thoroughly updated throughout, this book includes new information on e-health, information security, application development, and project management. It also contains chapter summaries, discussion questions, and a glossary of technical terms. Book jacket.
I am currently an IT analyst in a Health Care setting and an avid reader. I decided to start readig about Healthcare IT topics and since I cannot afford to pay for grad school I figured atleast I could start learning on my own. Hence, I bought this book used for about $25, I don't think it is worth more than that. It gives the reader a basic foundation of HCIS's (Health Care Information Systems), the key points to evaluating them, implementing them, etc. It is a little outdated but that was to be expected. This book isn't going to blow your mind or drastically enhance your knowledge but it will help you feel more confident reading heavier Healthcare IT books, etc, moving forward. Again, its not worth more than $20-$25.

The product was a little more dinged up than described, but still fit into the category listed. Shipping was fast despite only using regular shipping. I got the book in less than a week! The seller's communications were excellent letting me know when shipping occurred, confirming purchase, etc. I would highly recommend seller.
