The final Gygax novel

This was the last novel Gygax ever wrote. He wasn't a great novelist, but his style was as indomitable as ever, and he could tell a great tale when he chose. Well, the review should probably be for 3 1/2 stars rather than 4, but leaving that to one side, this is a book for the more hardcore pulp fiction reader. Its not a free-flowing easy read, but does reward a closer reading. The protagonists, Ferrer and Raker, are a little bit interchangeable - one is much younger than the other, but to be honest I could never keep clear which one that was. It was still a fun read though - werewolves, castles, magick, dungeons - its all there. I wish that Gygax had chosen to write more tales of these two; doubtless they would have gotten even better.
