The author claims that there have been several paradigm shifts in writing, phonetic alphabet, & the printing press that technologized the word and mechanized the milieu which resulted in the industrial revolution, and with all of its great benefits, it industrialized not only products and services, but capitalism, schooling, children, and reality as experienced in knowing as contrasted with being, that is, in an abstract-conceptual reality as contrasted with an experiential-existential reality, with the former focused on truth as reality and the latter focused on the experience of existence as reality. This paper explores capitalism and democracy in the gilded age as well as looking at the industrial revolution in three ways - generalist, scholarly, and Luddite.
