Book Overview

Indigo's mum has had it with her boyfriend, and has moved her girls out of their cozy home and into "the flat from hell." Indie is not about to show anyone how it really feels, especially not her best... This description may be from another edition of this product.

My Daughter Likes This Book

Book looked very nice, my daughter was excited to see it in her birthday box.

Wow!

I have given this book five stars because I personally thought it was very good and well written. I am fussy about what I read and writing style is important, it is not many fiction books that can hold my attention but all of this authors' books I have read to date have pretty much considering they are not really written for adults. I prefer factual books, and it is probably the realism of the situation this book unfolds that appeals. My 10yo daughter was directed towards the book 'Scarlett' by her school teacher, and was then desperate to read more books by Cathy Cassidy. I therefore bought Indigo Blue but without reading the blurb first, then was unsure whether my daughter had the maturity to deal with the storyline. Hence I read it first. Alot of the nuances in the book seem to have gone over her head I am pleased to say, and she enjoyed the story. I was worried about her reading of domestic violence, but she didn't seem to understand that that was why the mother had bruises on her face, and I don't think she found the book nearly as emotive as I did. Cathy Cassidy has tackled some difficult issues here, and done so with a good amount of sensitivity, but I am still not sure that I wanted my daughter to be reading of such things just yet, I would like her to remain an innocent a bit longer. In saying all that though, there is a happy ending and a good feeling that while things can get pretty bad there is always the opportunity there that they will get better. If you're a parent reading this book I would suggest a hanky or a tissue, especially at the bit where the grandmother receives the letter. I cried and cried for Indigo and thinking about it still brings a tear to my eye. You can't help but feel fond of Indigo, and at the end you just have to cheer because things finally go right for her. I just need to know now that she lives happily ever after, because she certainly deserves to! I would rate it as a 'do not miss this one' read, however definitely NOT a book to give someone who is down in the dumps! I would also, due to the content of the book, suggest perhaps a slightly higher aged recommended reading audience.

Awesome To Read!

This book is very good because it deals with the struggles of friendship, being poor and difficult relationships. Even though much of the things going on are sad, it is written so well that you don't mind reading about it. There are parts that are funny, but mostly it is about being human and what we deal with in life emotionally and physically. I just think it is a really cool book! Cathy Cassidy is a great author - I have also read her book titled Dizzy. It is a good one to read, too.

A girly-girl book.

Indigo Blue's mum loves the colour blue- the sky, chlorinated water, practically anything blue. But life has been pretty bad so far for Indigo's family. Especially when her mum is physically abused by her step-father and runs away with Indigo to a little apartment, far, far, away. At least life at school is sunny and bright for Indigo. Indigo's best friend- Jo always makes Indigo feel better, she's care-free and doesn't care much about anything and never ask's Indigo about life- which is really bad. Life graddually starts to shine when Indigo's mum gets a job and their house begins to look nicer and nicer each day. But life soonsoon darknes when Indigo's step father returns- and when her best friends decides it's pay-back time. This is a heart-warming book about love, life and coverage, and has a beautiful, happy ending.
