Intimate portrait

Lady Lawrence gives us an intimate portrait of her marriage and of India during the Raj. Her intelligence and compassion shine as she gives us the details of daily life as the wife of a district officer. She was a published author, age 36, when she married and sailed to India. I felt I was with her in the heat, sand storms, household managing and all her facinating travels in India. Not often does a writer give the reader a feeling of being there too.
